Rejuvenation of Lead-Acid Batteries instead of Recycling or Disposal

n Southern Africa alone, more than 30 million Lead Acid Batteries are consumed every year. With the current status of the main power grid, this demand increases annually, meaning that more and more batteries have to be disposed of. Recycling of batteries requires expensive and environmentally hazardous processes in order to decompose the battery into raw elements such as lead and poly-propylene for re-use by the main local battery manufacturers.

However, rejuvenation of batteries is far cheaper and takes less time and effort than recycling. Rejuvenation of Lead Acid Batteries is also an eco-friendly alternative to recycling or disposal. Advanced Battery Technologies’ main focus is to achieve or extend the intended life-span of batteries and solves a massive eco-problem in the process.

Battery Rejuvenation

Dynapulse™ Battery Rejuvenation / Charger Systems are used for the rapid elimination of sulfation buildup in lead acid batteries. Our high-current, low-frequency restoration method both conditions and charges batteries ranging from 2 to 48 volts. When used in combination with CELScan™ Electro-Chemical Analysis, we can accurately monitor both the removal of reversible sulfation buildup and the overall health of your battery system.

Our methods drastically reduce cost and effort while making sure that batteries are actually susceptible to rejuvenation techniques. There is NO miracle cure for batteries (i.e. “snake oil additives”), but by applying the right technology and innovation we are capable of extending or achieving the intended lifespan of sulfated batteries.

High Impact, Low Frequency Pulse Charging

By the time a battery has been evaluated and found susceptible for Dynapulse™ rejuvenation (up to 80% of sulfated batteries), the process takes about 8 – 12 hours to complete and batteries are ready for redeployment within 24 hours after treatment. The process involves a three stage charging regime to sulfated cells, culminating in a high-amplitude, low-frequency pulsed charge regime, while carefully monitoring cell temperature to prevent thermal runaway.

This process restores the battery capacity, giving you the ability to reuse old and sulfated batteries. The system can also be used for annual maintenance to strongly prolong the life span of your batteries. ABT is extremely proud of our 57% ACTUAL redeployment rate and in the process we are saving our clients millions annually.

Batteries that are scrapped, are all safely disposed of for responsible local recycling and the raw materials are re-used for local battery manufacturing.

Only Replace Bad Cells/Blocs

The entire battery’s capacity was therefore compromised, even AFTER it was successfully desulfated with our Dynapulse™ Battery Rejuvenation / Charger Systems.

In this case, only one bad cell needs to be replaced in order for the battery to be fully restored to operating capacity.

It also illustrates that the individual cell has developed ELECTRICAL problems that can NOT be repaired. Early detection with CELScan™ Electro-Chemical Analysis could have prevented this.

Results of Dynapulse™ Battery Rejuvenation

By using our Intelligent Battery Management System Software (IBMS™) and CELScan™ Electro-Chemical Analysis results, ABT can accurately report on the exact level of desulfation/rejuvenation. Below is an extract of an IBMS™ report showing the before and after results:’
